High School Tournament

In the early 70’s and into the 80’s, many B.C. High Schools had bowling leagues as an after school activity. Many Bowling Centres had High School leagues every day of the week and most were registered with the Youth Bowling Program.

The B.C. High School Tournament started from an unorganized after class activity that ballooned into a fully supported bowling program. The first organized B.C. wide High School Tournament started in 1971. In 1974 there was over 100 High School Teams competing in the annual Provincial Event. Hundreds of Teachers volunteered their time to supervise the after school leagues and chaperone the students to the Provincial Tournaments.

Every year bowling Scholarships were given to a number of graduating Students that also belonged to the Y.B.C. Program. Scholarships ranged from $50 to $200.
