The CKNW Orphans League started in 1969 and was the biggest ladies league in Canada. The league bowled throughout seven centres in the Lower Mainland and in 1975 there was over 2,500 league members. The cost to bowl in 1975 was $2.65 for three games. This included free coffee, trophies, prizes and bowling’s largest banquet held every year at the PNE Showmart building. A portion of the money was donated to the CKNW Orphans Fund and in 1975 the league raised over $30,000 for the charity.
