The National Classified Tournament started in 1970 and was designed for all average categories, giving them the opportunity to compete in a National event. In 1974 there was 37,000 bowlers that competed in the event. Two years later the participation had grown to 46,000 competitors.
Bowlers compete against others in their own average categories and one bowler from each of the five categories made up the team and represented B.C. at the National Championships. In 1974 the Men’s Average categories were: under 171, 171 to 185, 186 to 200, 201 to 215 and 215 and over. The Women’s Average categories were: under 146, 146 to 160, 161 to 175, 176 to 190 and over 190.
