BC Bowls for Kids on behalf of Variety

Bowl BC would like to thank all the proprietors who have helped raise funds for the special needs kids of BC through our annual BC Bowls For Kids campaign. BC bowlers did a great job once again this year with the cheque presentation on Sunday, January 26th for $61,000. We know that with the early date for the Telethon it was more work to pull off the campaign but pat yourself on the back for helping us achieve this goal.

This past June at the Annual Heart Award Dinner for Variety, The Children’s Charity – Bowl BC and their bowlers were awarded the Colleen Wood Fundraising Award. This award was named after a young woman who had special needs and whose family was helped by Variety. Despite her challenges, Colleen was a gifted musician who regularly played the Hammond organ at the Telethon when it was broadcast live from the Queen Elizabeth Theatre.

She was also an avid fundraiser for Variety, going door-to-door with Variety coin boxes and asking friends and neighbors for support. After Colleen passed away her parents continued her fundraising efforts. Altogether over the years, Colleen and her family raised over $400,000 for Variety and were responsible for placing 35 Sunshine Coaches on the roads, helping hundreds of children who have special needs all over BC. Colleen’s legacy lives on in this award, which honors an individual or group who devises their own fundraising programs and initiatives.

So bowlers of BC pride yourself in helping these special kids.
